I saw The Great Gatsby last Friday. I read the book in high school, but honestly, I'd forgotten basically everything about it. Thus, I went to the theater expecting to be mildly entertained by the lush visuals and pretty actors (minus Tobey Maguire *barf*) the trailer had enticed me with.
Not exactly, old sport.
It was okay. Not to get way into it, but I really didn't like all of the computer graphics they used on like, all of the scenery. The plot itself is interesting but somehow the movie was just okay. I don't know. Leonardo was presh, though ;)
I'm actually here to talk about the music, you guys.
At first I wasn't sure about all the Jay-Z blasting in 1920s New York, but then I was like, yeah yeah this is working. In fact, I found myself paying more attention to what interesting song would play next than to how the plot was advancing.
So, I came home and got the soundtrack for myself and haven't been able to stop listening to this damn Lana Del Rey track. I listen to it on my laptop at home, I blast it in my car, and I sing it in the shower. In general I think LDR's music is not my thing, but this song is like UNGH YEAH.
Lana Del Rey :: Young and Beautiful
Dear Lord, when I get to heaven
please let me bring my man
When he comes, tell me that you'll let him in
Father, tell me if you can
All that grace, all that body
Oh, that face makes me wanna party
He's my sun, he makes me shine like diamonds
Other tracks I'd booty call:
+ Andre 3000 + Beyonce // Back to Black
+ Gotye // Hearts a Mess
The whole thing is pretty good and there's artists like Flo + Machine and The XX, so you'll probably like it. If not you can always listen to Daft Punk's new album and cry yourself to sleep.

One of my favorite comic artists is Kate Beaton of
Hark, A Vagrant. She made a series of comic strips about The Great Gatsby a few years ago that have always always made me laugh.
Happy Wednesday :)
