This past weekend I went to the botanical gardens in my hometown. I think I've just recently realized that I like visiting places that can be found in many cities --zoos, libraries, botanical gardens, antique stores, record stores, etc-- but are unique to each location. I've only been to the botanical gardens in St. Louis and it's the bangin' bomb diggity, but this one was very pleasant, if small.

There's something about being surrounded by beautifully tended flora that lifts your spirits to the max.

I've got lots of day trips and overnight adventures planned for myself and my friends this summer. Exploring is the name of the game. Now that I've found a summer job (and perhaps a second on the horizon?), I feel like I'm more equipped to take advantage of my wanderlust.

I find friends and sunny days keep me in good spirits, and I'm continually working on staying positive so that I can accomplish my goals. Positivity + hard work = happy Maria (´⊙ω⊙`)!

P.S. I officially love documenting my outings with my iphone cam even though it's not a real camera and the quality is super questionable! I'm saving up for a nicer digital slr, but in the meantime I like using this because it's quick and easy.

What are your summer plans, eh?

Young and Beautiful ♪

I saw The Great Gatsby last Friday. I read the book in high school, but honestly, I'd forgotten basically everything about it. Thus, I went to the theater expecting to be mildly entertained by the lush visuals and pretty actors (minus Tobey Maguire *barf*) the trailer had enticed me with.

Not exactly, old sport.

It was okay. Not to get way into it, but I really didn't like all of the computer graphics they used on like, all of the scenery. The plot itself is interesting but somehow the movie was just okay. I don't know. Leonardo was presh, though ;)

I'm actually here to talk about the music, you guys.

At first I wasn't sure about all the Jay-Z blasting in 1920s New York, but then I was like, yeah yeah this is working. In fact, I found myself paying more attention to what interesting song would play next than to how the plot was advancing.

So, I came home and got the soundtrack for myself and haven't been able to stop listening to this damn Lana Del Rey track. I listen to it on my laptop at home, I blast it in my car, and I sing it in the shower. In general I think LDR's music is not my thing, but this song is like UNGH YEAH.

Lana Del Rey :: Young and Beautiful

Dear Lord, when I get to heaven
please let me bring my man
When he comes, tell me that you'll let him in
Father, tell me if you can

All that grace, all that body
Oh, that face makes me wanna party
He's my sun, he makes me shine like diamonds

Other tracks I'd booty call:

+ Andre 3000 + Beyonce // Back to Black
+ Gotye // Hearts a Mess

The whole thing is pretty good and there's artists like Flo + Machine and The XX, so you'll probably like it. If not you can always listen to Daft Punk's new album and cry yourself to sleep.

One of my favorite comic artists is Kate Beaton of Hark, A Vagrant. She made a series of comic strips about The Great Gatsby a few years ago that have always always made me laugh.

Happy Wednesday :)

Warm weather! But I am still wearing a jacket because I get cold indoors?

I'm back in my hometown for the summer. Looking for a job and lots of good times. This skirt is one of my new favorites. I've tried it on at least 5 different times in the Plato's Closet here. I never bought it, though, 'cos I didn't think I'd know how to style it. What?

I started daydreaming about it sometime during finals week and decided I had to go back and see if it was still on the rack...obviously, it was.

Nyah nyah, it has been a nice long day and I am ready for bed.

I flew kites today. Want to see?
