Gone Home. You know, I could write a description or summary of what might entice you to play this game, but honestly, the trailer is persuasion enough.
You play as Kaitlin, the eldest sister in a family of four. Back from a trip abroad, Kait's younger sister Sam has left mysterious journal entries to explain her absence. The resulting story and exploration through the house --and the peek into a family's life --is 3 hours well spent, in my opinion.
People have a lot to say about this game. That it's too short, that it's too expensive, that the story line is not worth the time it takes to get through the game (but wait, I thought it was too short?).
If you like a heartfelt story, if you like exploration games, if you like that Riot Grrrl aspect of the 90s, hell, if you like thunderstorms, you should just play this damn game. I'm not saying it's perfect and I'm not saying this is the deepest, most profound story line. I'm just saying it's worth playing through. It is emotionally engaging & quirky. It's not for everyone, but I feel confident enough to say my small readership might take an interest in it, for sure.
Instead of going to see a movie tonight, explore this little gem of a 90s throwback game.
You can buy it on Steam, love.
P.S. Don't look up the tumblr tag for it, it's full of spoilers. :)
